A huge percentage of Americans are fatherless. This reality is continually revealed by the actions and choices made by those damaged by this absence. God created us in His image to be His children. He is our heavenly Father and desires to be the most ever-present reality in every life. Adam and Eve lived in His presence. In the garden, “They walked with Him and talked with Him and He told them they were His own.” They enjoyed intimate fellowship with their Father, experiencing the joy of His manifest presence.

President Obama or Gov. Romney, Democrats or Republicans, have never been and never will be our hope. The Lord is our hope and will offer help if we will turn to Him in humility and brokenness allowing Him to heal first our hearts and then our land. God’s own family – the church – needs to set the example in unity and wise reasoning, while visibly demonstrating how to work together so the world groping in darkness can see the power of love and truth in action. The American people once again have been called upon to deal with serious crises. At this time it’s visible on two fronts: the aftermath and devastation of Hurricane Sandy, and then Tuesday’s national elections. It is no exaggeration to say we are dealing with a crisis in both arenas. As always, any effective solution will only be found when people come together, work together, and pull together for a common cause and common good.

The upcoming national election will say something about who and what the American people trust. Both candidates and parties stress the importance of trust. The fact is, they each want you to trust their leadership and promises, but if you read between the lines and have the ability to discern, you will see far more. Neither candidate is perfect, and there are reasons for legitimate concern on both sides.

The debates have been interesting to watch. I have appreciated the opportunity to hear Gov. Romney’s positions on various issues. He is certainly not the diabolical person that the president and the biased liberal media have painted him to be. But among the debates so far, perhaps the most striking comment came from Vice President Biden in his debate with Congressman Paul Ryan.

Last week I spoke in North Carolina at C3 Church near Raleigh and in Atlanta at Creflo Dollar’s Ministers’ Conference. The messages were well-received and the pastors and the people were challenged and their response was most encouraging. This week, I spent time at Legacy Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with church leaders and members. The presence of God was heavy and the atmosphere was saturated with a sense of love, compassion, and deep concern for our future.

Satan is the father of all lies. God is author of truth. Lies damage, defeat and destroy. Truth illuminates, reveals, heals, and sets captives free. Lies establish a foundation equal to sinking sand, while truth provides the only unshakable foundation.

All of us have standards. We don’t always live up to them, but we at least try. For Christians, the Bible sets the standard, even with the variations in interpretation. …

Every election demands a decision. Sadly, many Americans, including Christians, decide to not participate in our blessed democratic process made possible in our constitutional republic. They don’t vote.

As the November election nears, we’re going to hear from two political parties. Both will point out our nation’s problems and claim they have the solutions. What should we believe? Who should we support?
